Port of Cromarty Firth Board Members
Hugh Mitchell – Chair
Hugh Mitchell spent over 37 years with Royal Dutch Shell, serving 11 years as Chief HR and Corporate Officer. A recognised global HR leader, he is a Non-Executive Director at the University of Edinburgh and a visiting lecturer at London Business School.
Alex Campbell – Chief Executive
Alex Campbell became Chief Executive of the Port of Cromarty Firth in 2024, bringing extensive experience across renewables, oil and gas, marine, and environmental sectors. He previously held senior leadership roles at APEM Ltd, Survitec Group, James Fisher and Sons Plc, and Atkins.
Rhona Harper – Vice Chair
Rhona Harper is a procurement law specialist and partner at Shepherd and Wedderburn LLP, where she led the Government and Public Sector Group. With 24 years’ experience advising major public bodies, she also chairs Volunteer Scotland and serves as Legal Secretary for the Water Industry Commission for Scotland.
Robert McCaig – Board Member
Robert McCaig is a Chartered Engineer and Fellow of both IMarEST and IMechE, with 40 years’ experience in ports, offshore energy, and onshore support services. A consultant for Kishorn Port, he previously held senior roles with Babcock Marine Rosyth and DECOM North Sea.
Dr Derek McGlashan – Board Member
Derek McGlashan has held senior roles across the port industry with Aberdeen Harbour Board, Forth Ports, and the Port of London Authority. With expertise in security, sustainability, and ESG, he is Director of Saltire Sustainability Ltd and a Non-Executive Director of the Forth Estuary Forum.
Amanda Bryan – Board Member
Based in the Highlands, Amanda Bryan has over 30 years’ experience in rural development and land management. Former Chair of Crown Estate Scotland, she led the ScotWind and INTOG offshore wind leasing rounds. She now combines lecturing, consultancy, and advisory roles across the land-based and renewable sectors.
Fiona Larg – Board Member
A Chartered Accountant, Fiona has extensive experience across multiple industry sectors with national and international clients. A former Chief Executive of Inverness and Nairn Enterprise, she helped establish the University of the Highlands and Islands as COO and Secretary, receiving an MBE in 2017 for services to higher education.
David Bell – Board Member
Professor of Economics at the University of Stirling, David Bell is a leading advisor to government on economic, fiscal, and demographic policy. A Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh and CBE recipient, he co-leads the Healthy Ageing in Scotland (HAGIS) project.
How does the board work?
The Port board consists of the following eight members appointed by an open and transparent process. The board and executive management are the joint focus for the accountability of the trust port in the conduct of the port’s business.
The Port’s board meets regularly to review the Port’s business and future plans. They are not owners or shareholders; they manage the Trust Port which reinvests all its profits into the development of the port. Their duty is to safeguard the valuable assets of the Port and hand them on in the same or better condition to future generations.
