In partnership with the Norwegian company Gen2 Energy, the Port of Cromarty Firth is developing a green hydrogen hub, which will position the Port as a key player in the North of Scotland Hydrogen Programme. This initiative aims to produce, store, and distribute green hydrogen at scale, supporting industries in the Highlands and across Europe in their transition to low-carbon operations.

Our green hydrogen partnership with Gen2 Energy and other stakeholders across the region focuses on importing green hydrogen from Norway and distributing it across the UK, helping industries reduce their reliance on fossil fuels. Moray East Offshore Wind Farm
The Moray East Offshore Wind Farm project showcased the Port of Cromarty Firth’s role as a major logistics hub for renewable energy. The Port served as a base for marshalling pin piles and other key infrastructure required for the construction of 100 wind turbines. The Port’s heavy-lift crane capabilities and extensive laydown areas were integral in handling and storing the project’s massive components. This project, part of Scotland’s drive towards net-zero, highlighted our ability to accommodate large-scale renewable projects with tight delivery schedules.
Moray East Offshore Wind Farm
Beatrice Offshore Wind Farm
The Port of Cromarty Firth played a pivotal role as the intermediary port for the Beatrice Offshore Wind Farm, one of Scotland’s largest wind energy projects. The Port provided extensive marshalling and assembly services, handling key components such as wind turbine substructures and blades.
With our deepwater quays and vast storage areas, the Port was critical in ensuring the seamless delivery and assembly of these components, supporting the installation of 84 wind turbines in the Outer Moray Firth. The success of this project not only demonstrated the Port’s capability to manage large offshore wind projects but also cemented our position as a leader in renewable energy logistics.
Beatrice Offshore Wind Farm
Moray West Offshore Wind Farm
The Moray West Offshore Wind Farm project marked a significant milestone for the Port of Cromarty Firth. As part of this project, the Port was selected for the marshalling of 62 wind turbine monopile substructures, some weighing nearly 2,000 tonnes.
Our expanded Quay West facility, with its 90,000sqm of laydown area and deepwater quays, was key to the efficient handling and storage of these components. The project involved close collaboration with Ocean Winds and utilised advanced transport technology to offload and assemble the monopiles before their installation in the Moray Firth. This project further solidified our reputation as a key logistics hub for Scotland’s offshore wind industry, supporting the nation’s drive towards renewable energy.
